FAQ

Have some questions? We’re here to help answer them. These are some of the most commonly asked questions about Bornn Bookkeeping and our services.

What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

Great question! While some professionals wear both bookkeeper and accountant hats, these roles are generally distinct. Here’s a breakdown:

Bookkeepers:
• Record business expenses and sales data.
• Review and reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and loans.
• Prepare reports, year-end reporting, and GST reports.
• Handle payroll processing and reconcile payroll year-end reporting.
• Provide home office expense data, which accountants use for tax allocation.
• Gather any unentered items and pass them to accountants for tax planning.
• Keep a sharp eye out for errors and duplicated receipts.

Accountants:
• Conduct a thorough review of the bookkeeper’s work to ensure accuracy.
• File personal or business taxes.
• Offer tax planning services to optimize your financial strategy.

While this provides a general idea, it’s essential to note that accountants and bookkeepers often team up to provide comprehensive support for businesses. Think of them as dynamic duo, each playing a vital role in keeping your financial matters in tip-top shape!

What are the general expectations of the client when hiring a bookkeeper?

When it comes to our clients, we understand that everyone has their unique approach to handling their books. Some prefer to be hands-on, while others entrust us with their paperwork. We’re totally flexible and accommodating, so whichever way you choose to work, we’re cool with it.

However, there’s one common expectation we have from our clients: good, timely communication. We recognize that as entrepreneurs, you’re constantly juggling various aspects of your business, and your time is precious. But, to ensure we’re doing the best job possible, we do need a bit of your time for questions and corrections.

We often communicate via email as it helps ensure all parties have a documented trail of our discussions. This not only protects both you and us but also fosters a strong working relationship built on transparency and trust.

What if the needs of my business change and I don’t require the same services?

We understand that the needs of businesses can evolve over time, and we’re fully prepared for that. We have an à la carte approach, similar to a customizable menu, allowing you to select the services that best suit your current requirements. If, at any point, you decide to bring some of your bookkeeping duties in-house by making an internal hire, that’s perfectly fine.

At Bornn Bookkeeping, we’re all on the same team, no matter the capacity. Our goal is to provide the support you need when you need it, ensuring that your business has the flexibility to adapt and grow without any added stress. Your success is our priority, regardless of the changes you may encounter along the way.
